Tungsten Hexabromide, WBr6

Tungsten Hexabromide, WBr6, is formed, in total absence of air and of moisture, by gently heating tungsten in bromine vapour in an atmosphere of nitrogen. It sublimes, forming bluish-black needles which readily decompose on heating. It fumes in the air and is decomposed by water with formation of a blue oxide and hydrobromic acid.
