Normal Bismuth Tungstate, Bi2(WO4)3

Normal Bismuth Tungstate, Bi2(WO4)3, is dimorphous, crystallising in (1) the monoclinic system,

a:b:c = 1.006:1:1.520, β = 90° 34', and (2) the tetragonal system,

a:c = l:1.566.

The monoclinic crystals have density 8.24 at 7.5° C. and melt at 832° C.

The bismuth salt, Bi2O3.6WO3.8H2O, is obtained as a white precipitate on mixing solutions of bismuth acetate and sodium tritungstate in presence of alcohol.
